Pension Mess – 2

The First Part of this post can be read here.

A quick look at the CAG report for Maharashtra for the year 2010 – 11, the latest available. The salary payments for the five years upto 2010 – 11 is as below. I have also given the comparative figures for Gujarat (where ever available – again from CAG report for Gujarat but for year 2011 – 12).

Year                       Maharashtra                        Gujarat            (in Rs. Crores)

Salary      Total Receipts      Salary   Total Receipts

2006 – 07       8,136            62,195               N.A.           N.A.

2007 – 08       8,851            79,583              3,119        35,690

2008 – 09     24,875            81,271              3,189        38,676

2009 – 10     36,263            86,910              4,760        41,672

2010 – 11     42,001          105,868              5,555        52,364

2011 – 12        N.A.              N.A.                  6,216        62,959

The population of Maharashtra as per 2011 census is 11.24 Crores and Geographical Area   3.08 Lakh Sq. KM. The Population of Gujarat as per 2011 Census is slightly more than 6 Crores and the Geographical area is 78,687 Sq. Km.

With a population that is slightly less than double and land mass slightly less than 4 times, Maharashtra spends slightly less than 8 times on Salaries.

If I was a Maharastrian I would be worried.

Very worried.
